Coffee, Tea & Autism - Fairlawn

Coffee, Tea and Autism provides an informal forum for discussion and information sharing among anyone impacted by autism.  Facilitators are volunteers who have first-hand knowledge of living the autism journey and have completed their training in active listening skills, group dynamics and accessing resources.

These support groups can … 

• Connect people with similar experiences
• Provide new resources, ideas and suggestions
• Encourage you throughout your journey
• Celebrate successes no matter how small
• Let you know you are not alone
• Allow understanding with no judgement

Sometimes the best support and information comes from others living the same journey.

Peer Facilitator:  April Stephens

A little bit about April - April Stephens is the mother of a young son with Autism. She is her son’s primary advocate in all areas of his life. She has attended many Autism conferences, has an Autism book library at home, and found medical professionals that specialize in special needs children to help her son’s various medical challenges.  She believes the impact of Autism can be addressed with a variety of therapies.   In addition to having a strong faith, she attributes the improvement with her own son to various therapies including biomedical treatments, special diets, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, hippo therapy (horse-riding), social-skills training, swimming therapy, art therapy, music therapy, and nutritional supplements.  She is honored to meet the families and friends affected by Autism. Her desire is to help them through the journey by having a forum to discuss their needs and sharing resources with them. In her spare time she enjoys reading, performing and writing songs.
